Hickory drumsticks

Hickory drumsticks

Our sticks are made from first-class American hickory wood. This type of wood is denser than hornbeam, so when comparing sticks made from the same type of hornbeam, we find them somewhat heavier. Hickory is a genus of the family of walnut trees in the order Beech. The genus was formerly called “Hicoreae” after its common name, the hickory. The name "hikori - hickory" is of Native American origin; from an Algonquin language. Its scientific name, "Carya", is of ancient Greek origin; "κάρυον" also means nut. We recommend hickory sticks to those who have a problem with their sticks breaking frequently. Unlike hornbeam, hickory is harder to split, so if the sticks on cymbals and snare drum rims are more worn, hickory is harder to break, so it can be used longer. Hickory is not native to Europe, it has to be imported, which is why its price is noticeably higher than hornbeam sticks.
